Ed Urbaniak
Ed
Urbaniak joined the Army at age 17 under the delayed
entry program. After his graduation from High School,
Ed started his enlisted basic training at Ft. Sill,
OK. While attending basic training, his drill sergeants
noticed Ed’s leadership abilities and intelligence
and recommended him for the United States Military Academy
Preparatory School (USMAPS--a gateway to West Point).
Ed attended USMAPS and received an appointment to West
Point.
After graduating from West Point in May of 1989, Ed
was commissioned as an Armor officer. In 1992, Ed left
active duty with an honorable discharge as the Army
reduced its numbers after the first gulf war. Ed was
promoted to Captain during his service in the Inactive
Ready Reserve.
Ed was the chair for the Service Academy Gay and Lesbian
Alumni (SAGALA) from 2001 to 2005. Ed currently resides
in Northern, VA with his partner Erwin Lobo and their
son Leon. Ed is a Realtor with Weichert, Realtors. When
not working, Ed spends time working on his home, traveling
and other family activities.
